ABOUT US

 

The Whitianga Ferry has been operating for over 120 years and is an iconic part of Whitianga’s history. Whitianga Waterway Cruises uses the 10m Mercury Star ferry to take you up the river and through the waterways. This ferry has been in service for the Whitianga Ferry for 35 years.

The tour takes about 1h 20 min and is scheduled around high tide for the best experience. It is family friendly and suitable for all ages.

Some of the highlights of the tour include:

  • The old stone wharf at Ferry Landing built in 1837 and is reputed to be the first stone wharf built in Australasia

The cruise then comes back down the river to end at the Whitianga Wharf.

How long does the trip take?

The tour takes about 1hr 20 min

What do I need to bring?

Your camera, a water bottle/coffee, some snacks if you like, and a jacket if the day is cloudy or a bit windy.

Where can I park my car/campervan?

There are plenty of free unrestricted time carparks by the Whitianga Wharf and Ferry Landing Wharf.

Does the vessel have mobility access?

The wharves have ramps leading to the vessel but our ferry would require guests to be lifted onto it.

Where can I buy my ticket?
Either by purchasing on the following online booking form xxxxx, or on board the vessel if there are spaces left.
Where does the trip depart from?

The boat departs from Whitianga Wharf (12 Esplanade, Whitianga).  We can also pick you up from Ferry Landing Wharf by prior arrangement.

Can I bring food/refreshments on the boat?

Yes, you are welcome to bring food and refreshments.  Please be aware there are no toilet facilities on board.

What happens if the trip is cancelled due to weather conditions?

Both the river and waterways are situated in enclosed waters, so the water will always be calm.  In case of extreme rain, you will be contacted in the morning of the tour and will receive a full refund if you’re not able to reschedule your trip.
